Helping animals in need
For every blanketID tag registered and every membership purchased, money is donated to our Blanket Fund for Animals. Every penny raised for this fund is used to help animals in need.
For updates on other animals we have helped, check out Under the Blanket, label 'Blanket Fund'.
Here is a small sample of pets we've helped:
WhiskeyWhiskey is a young Irish Terrier puppy taken in by VPAS when his owner passed away, as none of the remaining family were prepared to care for him. During a physical examination VPAS discovered that his recent neuter incision had become infected. Unfortunately, Whiskey was found to be allergic to usual antibiotics, so instead had to receive a very costly injection of special antibiotics. The Blanket Fund for Animals supplied this injection for Whiskey. His incision has now healed nicely, his spirits have improved, and he has begun his obedience training. Whiskey is progressing well with his training, and is currently looking for the right forever home. |

PookiePookie is a senior cat who was surrendered because her owner didn't want the responsibility of caring for a cat anymore. During a routine blood screen it was discovered that Pookie was suffering from Diabetes Mellitus, which had gone untreated for some time. Diabetes is a condition that many pets can live comfortably with if it is properly treated and controlled. Pookie is beginning a course of treatment with insulin in an effort to stabilize her diabetes. The Blanket Fund for Animals is supplying the insulin Pookie needs, and helping on her road to recovery and to a new life. |

D'AngeloD'Angelo is a stray kitten who wound up at a spay/neuter clinic. He had a respiratory infection and was going to be put to sleep because he didn't have a home. D'Angelo was rescued and treated so that he could get a chance at a new life. His respiratory infection is gone, but he has a nasty Ringworm infection. Ringworm is a highly contagious fungus that infects the skin and causes itchy and painful lesions (although if you ask D'Angelo, the worst part is that he has to live by himself and can't play with other kitties or people because Ringworm is contagious.) In order to cure D'Angleo of his Ringworm infection he needs to be bathed in a special shampoo every 3 days for several weeks. The Blanket Fund for Animals is supplying the special shampoo that D'Angelo needs to cure him of this uncomfortable problem. He can't wait to be allowed to play with his friends again! |

Neo & MorpheusNeo (top) and Morpheus (bottom) are two tiny kittens who were found in very poor shape. They were heavily infested with worms (an affliction that unfortunately, took the life of their sister, Trinity), they had respiratory infections, and a few different intestinal parasites. Now rid of their worms, they are still suffering from respiratory infections and from two highly contagious intestinal parasites called Giardia and Coccidia. Both of these parasites cause diarrhea, and can be life threatening to kittens so young. The Blanket Fund is providing the three different medications needed to combat the respiratory infection and the Giardia and Coccidia infestations in these two sweet kittens. We are hopeful that they will be healthy and ready to find new homes soon. |
